In a world of seeking quiet moments and soothing rituals, matcha has crept from morning mugs to mood boards—and now, to interiors. The pale green color, drawn from this calming Japanese tea, adds a sense of freshness, clarity, and peace to whatever room it enters. Splashed on bedroom walls or layered into kitchens and courtyards, matcha green is like a gentle exhale—a remedy for the noise.

Here are six breathtaking houses that bring the essence of matcha to life in terms of design, and indeed, serenity can be styled.

1. Green Limewash Walls in a Lakeside Mumbai Home

Surrounded by a serene lake in Mumbai, this house by Mind Manifestation combines nature and imagination into each nook. The living room puts on its inspiration on the walls—literally—with sage green limewash mirroring the outdoors. With terrazzo floors speckled in pink, and murals that resemble natural extensions of the wall, the house is read like a poem.

As the architects put it, “The clients desired a space that not only represented their creativity but also a sanctuary. Therefore, we welcomed natural textures, brilliant greens, and handmade art.” The outcome is an interior that is akin to being at rest in a gust of wind—cool, earthy, and endlessly motivating.

2. A Zen Kitchen that Slightly Speaks in Green

Neutral kitchens have found their new voice—and it is no longer “sad beige.” Elicyon’s Charu Gandhi shows that calm can indeed have character. In this kitchen in London, matcha-like sage tones are incorporated into the design through radiant quartzite countertops and sleek splashbacks that mesh harmoniously with warm neutrals.

“We wanted a color palette that calms and welcomes,” Gandhi explains. The pale green is the star of the show here, quietly grounding the space with its modest charm. It’s a kitchen that doesn’t shout but inspires respect—just as matcha does.

3. Cottagecore Wishes in an Alibaug Villa

If matcha were to have a fairytale, this 4,000 sq ft Alibaug villa could well be it. Olive green and mint white stream across its walls to create a setting that is half forest, half fantasy. Laterite stone walls continue the olive hue in rustic honesty, while the weathered wood, Mangalore tile roof left exposed, and terrazzo floors bring elements of nostalgia.

The interior designers call the interiors “boho,” but the space has a secret that it wants to share—it’s lived-in, it’s dreamt-about, and lovingly made. In each photograph, there is a tale. And at its center, a soft green drawing everything into balance.

4. A Peaceful Green Bedroom for a Nature Enthusiast

In the heart of Mumbai’s chaos, this bedroom feels like a retreat into the woods. Designed by Architecture BRIO for a young wildlife photographer, it balances aesthetic sensitivity with a love for nature. Here, green isn’t just decorative—it’s deeply personal.

“The concept was to design a personal retreat that responds to his affinity towards nature,” says Bhakti Kunder from the firm. With lush walls, carefully selected flora, and an enveloping serenity, the bedroom is turned into both an intimate gallery and a soothing tribute to the great outdoors.

5. When Italy Meets India in a Florence Villa

From the coral-colored facades of Florence to the serene greens of Udaipur, this villa from the 17th century draws cross-cultural beauty like no other. Architect Shonan Purie Trehan’s residence blends Indian heritage with Italian passion, wrapped in hues of mint green, sage, salmon, and pink marble.

Within the living room, pale green walls are a canvas for heirlooms—Panipat carpets, marble-top tables from Udaipur, rattan couches, and paintings by Indian contemporary masters. This house borrows not just from two worlds, but resides where they intersect—richly, expansively, and truly.

6. Vintage Flair and Matcha Walls in Ahmedabad

Each nook of this Ahmedabad weekend house buzzes with purpose. No ready-made decor, no module hacks—only painstakingly selected fabrics, bespoke tiles, and exquisitely distressed sconces. Even the bathrooms have the home’s retro élan, topped with carved marble vanity units and matcha-colored walls that radiate softly.

The green here doesn’t yell. It whispers tales of elegance, precision, and profound attention. Like sipping warm tea on a languid morning, it’s an atmosphere you want to envelop yourself in.

Final Sip

Matcha isn’t just a drink. It’s a mood, a texture, a tone. These interiors prove how a simple green hue—when thoughtfully used—can transform everyday spaces into sanctuaries. Whether you’re after calm, character, or a fresh start, let these homes inspire your next shade shift.
