May gave us more than just heat—it gave us homes that whispered stories. From the sun-dappled balconies of Pune to the breezy coastal charm of Chennai, these ten homes were the most read, not just for how they look—but for how they made us feel. Each is a personal portrait—of memory, of material, of meaning.

1. A Home That Breathes Stillness – Pune

In Pune’s Bavdhan suburb, Neervi is not only a name but an emotion. Created by Shrutika Raut for a South Indian family and their extended kin group, this 2,800-square-foot retreat revolves around silence, light, and slow living.

Rather than sweeping gestures, it goes for small pleasures: wood warmed by the sun, spaces that blur into one another, and materials that mature gracefully. It’s not a house that yells—it hums, like the understated assurance of a favorite song.

2. A Cultural Quilt in Silk – Mysore

Envision walking through your memories—and draping them around you like a piece of silk. That’s precisely what Anita Bose did. With designer Anchal Shamanur of Studio AS, she turned her 6,100-square-foot Mysore residence into a living archive of her precious Mysore silk sarees.

Velvet walls, ikat fabrics, colonial arches, and Parisian touches all converge like characters in a gloriously disheveled book. Each item is intensely personal; each corner, edited not by fashions but by time.

3. A Gentle Eden in Kochi

For Nikin and Tany, whose home was a dream come true, perfection wasn’t the point—it was harmony. With architects Dhiya Anna Charley and Thomas Joseph, they created a house where the senses are calmed by earth tones and each brick is placed with purpose.

Double-height ceilings, indigenous stone, and gentle transitions in and out make a house that breathes, rests, and reflects. Nature isn’t just beyond the window in this Kochi sanctuary—it’s in the very fabric of the house.

4. A Timeless Tale in Chennai

When Chennai architect Krithika Subramanian returned to her heritage after decades of constructing others’ dreams, she finally constructed one of her own. Her 13,000-square-foot home doesn’t simply rest on ancestral land—it hums with it.

From the peacock-colored columns to a dramatic marble staircase, each detail is a dance between classic Tamil opulence and Italian minimalism. “It’s my autobiography,” she says. And so it is, the house reads as a poem—liquid, intimate, and richly layered.

5. A Maharaja’s Garden in the City – Ahmedabad

In the midst of thriving Ahmedabad, designer Manasi Shah at Modo Designs built an oasis for a family that just loved nature. The ask was straightforward: “Give us trees, light, and serenity.” And that’s what she gave them.

With open-air verandahs, generous teak detailing, and a smooth transition from inside to a garden that’s full of greenery, the house provides a quiet luxury that’s not about things—but about air, sun, and time well spent.

6. A Symphony of Interiors in Bengaluru

Designing her own 1,100-square-foot house was like writing music for architect and interior designer Manasi Nene of TADA. Each piece of furniture, each splash of color, each unfinished wall has a piece of her story to tell.

It’s loud but not boisterous, contemporary without sacrificing heritage. Like Nene herself, the house is playful, opinionated, and not afraid to combine nostalgia and novelty.

7. A Coastal Love Letter in Goa

It resembles a typical Portuguese-period Goan villa at first sight. But once inside, designer Krsnaa Mehta has re-scripted the experience. His family home in Mapusa is now a riotous celebration of colour, culture, and charisma.

From hand-block prints to colonial furniture and tropical wallpapers, it’s a memory kaleidoscope and modernity. It doesn’t strive to be perfect—it just strives to be him, and that’s its magic.

8. A Compact Marvel in Mumbai

In a city where square footage is at a premium, Sanya Khosla’s 900-square-foot Mumbai apartment feels impossibly airy. With designer Nikhil D’Souza, she designed a space that seamlessly melds old Bombay soul and global flair.

Mid-century furniture, dusty rose hues, and judiciously placed mirrors generate a visual beat that makes the house three times larger than its actual size. Testimony to the fact that small homes too can seem endless with a little bit of imagination.

9. A Bauhaus Dream in Hyderabad

Architects Aditi Pai and Yatin Pai of Open to Sky designed a home that’s less house, more sculpture. Inspired by Bauhaus principles, their Hyderabad home is pure form and function—clean lines, open volumes, and a touch of brutalist honesty.

But don’t be tricked: there’s soul in the austerity. A courtyard at its essence admits wind and birdsong, while wood accents and concrete slabs provide warmth and restraint in equal proportions.

10. A Nostalgic Revival in Pondicherry

In a revived Franco-Tamil heritage house in Pondicherry’s White Town, architects Lalita Tharani and Parul Zaveri brought the past to life. Wooden beams, lime-plastered walls, and ancient Athangudi tiles harmoniously sing with modern comforts.

It’s a place where time stands still. Where shutters creak open onto a silent courtyard. Where stories reverberate in each chipped corner. It doesn’t merely accommodate a family—it accommodates history.
